Health Teams in Schools
Comprehensive Health Services for Students
The Children’s Trust, in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, developed this initiative to bring comprehensive health services to students in county schools to improve access to high-quality health care.
Schools are staffed with a team of professionals including a nurse or nurse practitioner and a mental and behavioral health professional. Schools with larger student populations have the option for additional support from a licensed practical nurse.
Benefits of Health Teams in Schools Include:
- A coordinated level of care
- Expanded health screenings and assessments
- Mental and behavioral health services
- Nutrition and health counseling
- Better access to a regular primary-care physician
- Primary health services for uninsured students lacking other options
- Emergency first aid/CPR
- Chronic disease management
- Immunizations
