Board Development
BoardSource is a national organization working to strengthen nonprofit board leadership.
This is a board self-assessment tool (free; a more extensive online version is available for minimal cost).
Data Sites
This site provides census data/facts on a particular region/neighborhood.
DiversityDataKids.org is a comprehensive information system to monitor the state of well-being, diversity, opportunity and equity for U.S. children. It has a dedicated focus on race and ethnicity, equity and the importance of geography. An interactive tool for selecting and visualizing indicators of child well-being and opportunity available at the state, county and large city level.
Florida Health Charts provides easy access to health-specific and related indicators for Florida counties and in some instances ZIP codes and census tracts.
A project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, KIDS COUNT is a source for data on child and family well-being in the United States. Access hundreds of indicators, download data and create reports and graphics on the KIDS COUNT Data Center that support smart decisions about children and families. Most data are available at the state and county levels.
Evaluation/Performance Measurement
The BetterEvaluation planning tool can help you plan an evaluation by prompting you to think about a series of key questions regarding each of your tasks and select a package of methods that covers all.

The Outcome Indicators Project provides a framework for tracking nonprofit performance as well as several “how-to” handbooks.
Evidence-Based Programs (EBP)
Searchable database of more than 700 evaluated programs serving children and youth, and research based on those evaluations.
Profiles research-based parenting interventions for families of children ages birth to 5. Includes information on the cost, training requirements, duration and intended outcomes of each intervention.
Designed to assist practitioners and communities in implementing evidence-based prevention and intervention programs. The database includes programs for the entire continuum of youth services, from prevention through sanctions to reentry.

Grant Writing
The Candid website provides a wealth of publications, research, tools, online learning and grant application examples. Candid’s Foundation Directory Online, an extensive searchable database of foundation and corporate grantmakers, and GuideStar, data on 1.8 million IRS-recognized tax-exempt organizations and thousands of faith-based nonprofits, are available for free at all Miami-Dade County Public Libraries branches and at The Children’s Trust office. The Center for Social Change (C4SC) is a Miami coworking space for mission-driven leaders and organizations including nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. C4SC also hosts workshops and other capacity-building events.
